Description: Side A of the third audio cassette in a collection of eight which records Ron A. W. Perry’s memoirs entitled ‘The Way It Was’.

Side A is 00:45:42 long and has loud static noise interference throughout the recording. Ron has noted on the cassette case that this is due to a machine defect. Ron’s voice breaks in, mid-sentence at 00:00:02. Ron’s voice cuts out, mid-sentence, at 00:45:24 and the rest of the tape is blank.

The themes explored on Side A include: being billed to Castleford, West Yorkshire, and working in Baileys Liquor Factory; being billeted to Kingston upon Hull (Hull) [00:21:52] and performing in the Christmas pantomime produced by the Northern Command, to break up the monotony [00:25:04-00:31:04]; and being moved again and billeted in a stately home in Harrogate [00:38:15].
