Description: Side A of the second audio cassette in a collection of eight which records Ron A. W. Perry’s memoirs entitled ‘The Way It Was’.

Side A is 00:46:12 and begins with a selection of excerpts of dance hall music, with Ron’s voice coming in at 00:07:29. There is a lot of background static to this recording and Ron’s voice is quite quiet, which he has noted on the cassette case is due to a machine defect. The recording cuts off halfway through a sentence.

The themes explored on Side A are: dance halls and time spent at dances with friends; recollections of the motor traders and motor trade in Bath in the 1930s; and his enlistment into the army which he speaks about at 00:30:38.
