Description
Includes subscription books, list of members of Jubilee Committee, posters, correspondence, notes and bills etc. relating to the various events and activites organised to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. These activities included a general celebration on 21 June 1887 during which schoolchildren were given buns and presented with medals; the establishment of a convalescent home or sanitorium in Lansdown - a house was presented by Mr W H Freeman on condition that a 'sum of no less £5000' was raised by subscription, an 'Imperial Institute', and a citizen's dinner held on Wednesday 22 June 1887. The convalescent home plan was abandoned by 11 May 1887 and it was proposed to return the money to the subscribers unless an alternative good cause could be found.
