Description
The Local Advisory Committee for the Restoration of Buildings of Historic or Architectural Interest was set up in 1955 to implement the 1953 Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act. It comprised 4 members from Bath City Council, 2 members from the Bath Preservation Trust, 2 members from the Historic Buildings Council, and 2 indpendent members appointed by the Ministry of Works. The Committee came to an end 1977, when it was replaced by the Conservation Working Party.

The series includes some general files and some files relating to individual properties, mainly (but not exclusively) dealing with conservation grants under the 1953 Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act, the 1962 Local Authorities (Historic Buildings) Act, and the Bath Terraces Scheme (which gave grants for the restoration and preservation of facades of the iconic terraces, particularly the Circus and Great Pulteney Street). Some of the properties were owned by the Council, some privately owned. Material in some of the files is duplicated in the main series of conservation grant files (BC/8/8/11), though on the whole the Local Advisory Committee files are earlier.
