Description
A collection of photographs of the rooms in the Assembly Rooms and Pump Rooms taken before and after the Second World War, together with a few photographs of people working in the kitchens and several taken during the restoration work, probably around 1937. The collection includes pictures from before the bomb damage, with photographs of individual items such as chandeliers, clocks, plasterwork and furniture, as well as general photographs of the exterior and interior of the buildings, a few photographs of the bomb damage, a group of photographs taken during the restoration work, and a series of photographs of the ball rooms in the Assembly Rooms and Pump Rooms in the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s displaying different seating options. A set of eight pre Second World War photographs of the Assembly Rooms are also in the collection, together with copies of the original photographs used for the postcards. The photography studios include Herbert Lambert, FRPS (1882-1936), Cyril Howe, W. Dennis Moss, Cirencester, P. R. Lewin, Bath, West Advertising Ltd. Many of the photographs were the property of the Bath Spa Committee, some with the name of the Bath Spa director John Hatton, and would have been used as advertising material. The collection includes many duplicates.
