Description
An article in the History of Psychiatry, Vol 11. Part 2. Number 42, June 2000, pp. 163-188. The history of the institution/school and its successors. It opened in 1846 by Miss Charlotte White, originally at 5 Walcot Parade and then moved to 35 Belvedere. In 1887 it was taken over/merged with the Bath Municipal Charity Trustees and then moved to Rockhall House at Combe Down. It became The School for Imbecile Children at Rockhall but pupils eventually began to stay into adulthood. The school closed in 1978 and was eventually redeveloped as sheltered accommodation for the elderly
