Philip Rundell, silver manufacturer of Ludgate Hill, whose family came from Norton St. Philip, was educated at Bath and apprenticed there to a Mr Rogers, jeweller and goldsmith. Several branches of the family settled in Bath (including Philip's brothers, surgeons Thomas and Francis) and were leading members of the city corporation.
