Description
Photocopy of a letter dated 1574 and written by Elizabeth I in Latin, to John Sturm, Chief Magistrate of the Imperial city of Strasbourg and Rector and director of the school known as the Gymnasium (later a universitity) there. Sturm, a moderate protestant, helped to bring about the Reformation in the city. The letter was written while the queen was staying in Bath and is signed 'Farewell from our city of hot springs'. There is also a separate handwritten translation of the letter into English and three photocopied handwritten notes on the background and history of the letter.
