Thomas Forder Plowman (1844-1919) was Mayor of Bath in 1911 and Secretary of the Bath & West Society and this publication on countryside folk in his own words comprised recollections of 'some types illustrative of the old race of agriculturists who came within my own ken, and some incidents, illustrative of the times in which they moved, that have almost passed into the limbo of forgetfulness, with a few more-modern instances to keep them company (p. 7).
