Description
Barbara Dawson's recollection of the Baedeker Raids in Bath in April 1942 when she was a patient at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (Mineral Water Hospital) due to arthritis caused by coeliac disease. She also writes briefly of living with the disease at that period until the symptons were alleviated by Dutch doctor Willem Karel Dicke's development of the gluten-free diet in the 1940s/1950s. Also contains her covering letter and a newspaper cutting from The Times 25 April 2008 on the curative power of bananas for coeliac sufferers/discovery of the disease by Dr Dicke
