Description
An article on Georgian enamel 'patch' boxes which appeared in the May 2016 edition of 'Antique Collecting', the Journal of the Antique Collecting Club, pp. 18-21. The boxes once held patches, most obviously to hide smallpox scars, and were often decorated with views of town or cities and a number of those decorated with views of Bath still exist. The typescript describes these and compares them to visiting cards of the period and hence, their possible connection with Samuel Pratt, the owner of the circulating library in Milsom Street in the 1780s. Contains colour illustrations of the boxes decorated with Bath views.

Also contains the following items:

1. Enamel boxes depicting views of Bath. Typescript of the above article submitted to 'Antique Collecting', the Journal of the Antique Collecting Club before editing and publication and without the colour illustrations

2. Georgian enamel 'patch' boxes correspondence. Correspondence between Ian Harvey and Colin Johnstone, Principal Archivist at Bath Record Office on PP/2498/1 & 2.
