Description
This study explores the hypothesis that the National Health Service, from its foundation in 1948, was secretly used by successive governments 'to bolster national morale in the event of a nuclear confrontation' suggesting that NHS staff 'were manipulated to front a psychological weapon that lasted for twenty years, but existed for no other purpose than to protect the British bomb'. It contains a number of images held by Bath Record Office from the Bath Civil Defence Collection of recruitment posters, bomb sites and special training rescue grounds, Civil Defence Ambulances and Civil Defence exercises carried out in the city.
