Description
Photocopy of an article that appeared in the Transactions of the Ancient Monuments Society, New Series, Vol. 26, pp. 105-145 Eleanor Vere Boyle nee Gordon, who became famous for illustrating Victorian children's books, married Richard Cavendish Townsend Boyle, sixth son of the eighth Earl of Cork and Orrery. Richard was brought up at Marston House near Frome and became Rector of nearby Marston Bigot in 1836. Edward Davis (1802-1852), City Architect of Bath and uncle of the later Victorian Bath architect, Major Charles Davis, was commissioned to draw up plans for a new rectory at Marston Bigot. The article contains a description and copies of photographs of the building as well as copies of Davis's sketches and plans for it (see pp. 101, 103, 107, 111, 121, 127).
