Description
A typescript of Chapter XIII of a book eventually published in 1989 entitled 'Goodwin Wharton', an English Whig politician and autobiographer. Chapter XIII relates to the visit of Queen Mary Beatrice (Mary of Modena), wife of James II of England to Bath in 1687 and Wharton who followed her there. The typescript appears to be based on his manuscript autobiography held in the British Library which shows him to have been a fantasist prone to hearing voices and to have been possibly mentally unstable. Includes a covering letter from the author, J. Kent Clark, Professor of Literature to the then Bath City archivist, Robert Bryant and a synopsis of the whole book.
