William Winckworth was a teacher at Bath Workhouse. The diary is written into 'Dietrichsen & Hannay's Diary and Daily Memoranda for 1856, bound up with their Almanack'. The original diary is in private hands, but the Record Office holds a photocopy of the manuscript section of the diary and a transcript of the same made in 2005.
