Description
These files contain information on mayors' appeals for funds on behalf of a wide range of organisations and for a variety of local and national concerns.

A number of the files originally numbered 1-48 are marked in the file lists as sent for paper salvage in 1949. However, not all the files appear to have actually been sent; moreover, where files were sent for salvage some of the file numbers were subsequently re-used. File numbers 6-12 relate to fund-raising activities during the First World War, and although marked as sent for salvage they survived; they have however been removed from this series and united with very similar files, found separately, and are catalogued as BC/9/7. For these reasons, file numbers 6-12, 15-23, 26-34, 35-38 and 41-44 do not appear in this series.

File numbers 48 and 63 appear not to have been received by the Record Office. File numbers 73-99 were not used in the filing scheme.
