Description
The American War committee was set up to encourage men to enlist in the armed forces at the time of the American War of Independence. It asked for subscribers to donate sums of money, which were then used to pay those enlisting a sum of 3 guineas above the bounty already being paid for enlistment. The volume includes the minutes and accounts of the committee, names of subscribers, and details of those receiving the bounty (name, occupation and parish). Many of those enlisting came from outside Bath, especially Wiltshire.
