An audio recording of the public meeting held by the Environment Committee to decide what strategy should be adopted to stabilise Combe Down Stone Mines, with the final decision being ratified by the full council at their meeting on the 20th December 1994. This recording is 00:12:29 long and forms part of a series of recordings which make up the whole meeting. There are two audio cassettes in total both of which have a Side A and Side B [See also: BC/7/10/1/1/1a, BC/7/10/ 1/1/1b and BC/7/10/1/1/2a].

A transcription of the audio recording is available on request.

This audio recording starts with Councillor Kenyon’s voice breaking in, mid-sentence, continuing his opinion on the use of pulverised fuel ash (PFA) continued from Side A of the cassette [see BC/7/10/1/1/2a].
The meeting then proceeds with a named vote [00:02:07] with the following Councillors voting:
Councillor Dr Bennett, Councillor Bryant, Councillor Clark, Councillor Coombes, Councillor Crossley, Councillor Ruth Griffiths, Councillor Hawkins, Councillor Hogg, Councillor Kelleher, Councillor Kenyon, Councillor Mrs Lodge, Councillor Manning, Councillor Mrs Newnham, Councillor Simmonds, Councillor Mrs Wishart. Five were in favour and ten against so the amendment was lost.

Councillor Crossley then speaks to discuss the alternatives material for use in place of PFA and asking officers to report back to this committee on additional sources of public funding to allow more expensive infill materials to be used [00:04:08]. Councillor Kenyon seconds this.
A discussion is then held to ask the committee to undertake another check of possible sources of funding, with this recommendation approved by a vote.

Councillor Manning then comments [00:08:04], followed by Councillor Crossley [00:10:23], with the meeting concluding with the matter going for ratification to full council on 20th December 1994.
