Description
1. Private legal practice papers including correspondence from various solictors, regarding the serving of papers related to debt recovery on people visiting Bath, property management, mortgages, fines, and embezzlement. The solictors include Lowes & Colburn, and Knight and Jones, both of Temple, London; Coldham and Enfield of Nottingham; J. Wright of Hart Street, Bloomsbury, London; Exley, Stocker and Dawson, Furnivall's Inn, with occasional draft replies from Philip George junior. Knight and Jones' correspondence includes information relating to the prosecution of the Marquis of Silgo for enticing seamen and persuading them to desert the King's Service in Malta. Other corresondence includes a request for discrete inquries to be made about George Peter Moore, son of the Coventry MP Peter Moore (1753-1828), correspondence with Duncan, Master of St Peter's Hospital, Bristol regarding a lunatic, and a search for Michael Beak, a servant in Bath who fathered a child but failed to marry the mother. Several papers include accounts and charges from solicitors. A few letters refer to the Stordy case (see BC/3/2/45/13).

2. Bath Corporation business regarding a request to remove the battlements of County Bridge, Lambridge to widen the road.

3. Personal correspondence including character reference requests. Included are several papers from Clement Tudway regarding his attempts to obtain a curacy in Freshford, and his subsequent rental of Mrs Traherne's cottage. Original ref BC 134/37.
