Description
William Stordy was found guilty of stealing several gold items, including a gold watch, and several Bank of England notes, including two for £100, from William Hilton, who had stayed the night at the White Hart Inn, Bath, owned by Richard Woodhouse, William Bishop and Thomas Cooper. Included are four draft Briefs for the Prosecution, a copy of the witness statement, three draft Indictments, a printed calendar of prisioners to be tried at the Wells' Assizes, a copy of the Act for regulating the restitution of stolen goods. Also several letters from William Hilton to Philip George junior relating to the case, letters from Thomas Dawes (Hilton's solicitor), testaments from witnesses, correspondence relating to the case and several lists of expenses, some incurred by witnesses for the prosecution. Also a Bill, printed by Meyler and Son, Bath, advertising the stolen items.
