Description
The east front of Ralph Allen's Town House (John Wood the Elder, 1727) viewed from the narrow alley behind the Friend's Meeting House (now Toppings Bookshop) on York Street, showing the upper floors .Corinthian, three-quarter-engaged columns forming the three basy. The centre bay has a large arched window with a carved keystone which breaks into the second floor windowsill. Below the windows in the side bays are richly carved garlands of fruits and flowers. The steep pediment is richly decorated. At this time, the facade is still blackened by pollution.
