Description
A view looking southwards down a flooded Southgate Street- a regular winter occurrence before the new Pulteney Weir was constructed. Two female passengers of a boat are being assisted by two policemen while a small crowd of onlookers stand on the waterlogged east side of the street. A projecting sign towards the end of thestreet advertises 'Furzes Hotel & Cafe' On the opposite side of the street is the 'New Inn' public house and Mitchell's general drapers shops are seen on the right. On the reverse: a note in blue biro- '1956'. B/W
