Description

A telescopic view of the whole Southgate Street loking south towards the railway bridge and Calton road pre-clearance and development. The wooded hillside of Beechen Cliff fills the top of the photograph. A projecting sign announces 'Furzes Hotel & Café' midway down the street on the left with the illuminated canopy of the Odeon cinema beyond. The pedimented roofline beyond belongs to the Wine Vaults public house. Cars fill the nearside kerb on the left and a single-decker Bristol bus approaches Dorchester Street. B/W
