Description
A view of the derelict south side terrace of Kingsmead Square, Nos 5-10 at the beginning of restoration works. At this time, some of the original shop uses are known: at No 5 on the left, is the Reliance Stores, confectioner and tobacconist; No 7 is Kingsmead Laundry; at No 9 is Leakey's, fried fish dealers and at No 10, Bath Hygienic Laundry Co. Ltd. All of the premises are boarded up and a redevelopment signboard hangs at the first floor level of No 5. The boom of a tower crane looms across the sky, visible through the crown of the plane tree. There is a paved island around the central plane tree with a bus shelter at the east end and a pillar box on the south side.
