Description
Photograph looking across a bend in the canal just to the south of Cleveland House and the tunnel below it towards Kennet House, c. 1840, accessed from Sydney Road. The canal towpath appears very overgrown, as does the access to the horse ramp contained by the coursed stone wall. On the front are notes in black biro with arrows indicating particular features (clockwise from the top left hand corner): "CANAL BANK VERY STEEP AND NARROW HERE, RETAINING WALL REQUIRED", "NURSERY" [along Sydney Wharf], "KENNET HOUSE", "CLEVELAND HOUSE" and "K&A CANAL". On the reverse, a stamp in black: WILLIAM MORRIS, KENNET HOUSE, SYDNEY ROAD, TELEPHONE BATH 66862. B&W
