Description
View of the Guildhall Market interior under the central 12-sided dome. The market was rebuilt in 1861-3 after a design competition won by Hicks and Isaac. The 12-sided dome centre is lit by a drum with lunettes. The stalls on either side appear to belong to florist and fruiterers. The Good Life stall beyond appears to be selling sweets stored in tall jars. The archway beyond the dome has a hanging sign advertising W Bennett & Son (Bath) Ltd butchers. Under the dome on the left is a large sign advertising a business "?N & IRENE'S" (possibly a grocer). There is an elderly woman in the foreground with a tartan fronted shopping trolley. B&W
