View looking east north east from Beechen Cliff across the southern end of the town centre. The tower of St John's is central in the view. From the left foreground is the Bairds Maltings with Marks and Spencers on Lower Borough Walls at the junction with Stall Street. To the right is Northwick House. Above these is the Recreation Ground, fringed by Pulteney Street, Edward Street and St Mary's Bathwick. To the right of St John's Tower is Dunsford Place on Bathwick Hill with Darlington Place in shadow off to the right. The wooded slopes of Bathampton Down rise to the skyline where a black line has been drawn to show the propose location of the television relay station tower. In the bottom right hand corner of the photo is a long white sticker with the words "View from Beechen Cliff". On the reverse a note in blue biro: March 1966 B&W
