Description
A view looking east, concentrating on the west façade of No 16 Grove Street, the former Old Gaol, 1772-3, resembling a Palladian mansion, built by Thomas Atwood. It has five bays, the middle three recessed, a rusticated ground floor and above this windows alternately pedimented and without pediment and terminating with a stone balustrade. The ground floor is raised above a basement in this once flood-prone area.Clearly the building has been recently cleaned and restored in contrast to its neighbours. Cars parked on the nearside kerb include a Riley Elf, Triumph and a Austin 1100. B&W
