Description
A photograph of the full façade of No 23 Grosvenor Place, (known as 'Grosvenor Hotel' and the centrepiece of a 41 house terrace) with Nos 22 , 24 and 25 neighbouring on either side. Designed by John Eveleigh and started in 1791 but never fully completed until the 1820s: 4 storeys over a rusticated stone base, now 2 storeys of 7 giant 'Ionic' columns with garlands drooping off the capitals . An attic storey in the mansard sits behind a balustraded parapet. The 7 columns are questioned because the centre column is located over the hotel entrance. Nos 22 and 24 have yet to be cleaned and restored, whilst No 25 has a painted ground storey and equally lacks cleaning on the upper storeys. B&W
