Description
From the 'Then and Now' series published in the Bath Chronicle, a photograph possibly pre-First World War, of the corner of Ambury and Corn Street featuring the premises of J B Bowler & Sons (Ltd.) The three-storey façade advertises 'The City Metal Stores', 'Brass, Copper & Steel sheets, Tubes & Rods', Hot Water Boilers, Pipes' in large script over the upper two floors and parapet' The corner shop fascia continues the advertising with 'Wrought Tubes & Fittings'. Two cars of the period are parked along Corn Street looking west, one a saloon and the other has a soft-top. The contrasting photograph below shows that all the above buildings have been replaced by the Avon Street multi-storey car park and adjacent surface level carpark in the foreground. A sub-headline to the short article is entitled 'The new ugliness'. 1 item
