Description
A view of the top (north) end of the east side of Broad Street dominated by the façade of the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) at no. 19. The building of 1887-8 by T.B. Silcock has giant fluted Ionic pilasters on the upper floors and a frieze inscribed with the buildings' name. The arched entrance is surmounted by the letters 'YMCA' and descriptive banner advertisements adorn each side. The shop of N. E. Perrett, gent's hairdresser is on the ground floor of no. 19 and on the corner at nos. 17/18 is the premises of Malcolm Mower, tobacconist. The still blackend facades of Fountain Buildings, opposite Paragon, are seen in the distance. B&W
