Description
Possibly a photograph of a photograph. A view of the cottages on the east side of the Square viewed from the west lawn. No 5, the house with a segmental pediment, is a survivor of the original terrace on the east side. Its neighbours on the left are much later and have Victorian style sash windows. (The corner 'house', No 3 was a pub, opened probably 1740 called The Prince Frederick and called the Duke of York from 1800-1805). On the right is the lawn surrounded by the gated railings and overthrow which are Regency period (George Dance the Younger). On the left is a view up Trim Street and the backs of Milsom Street. On the left is a traffic sign: 'No right turn' into Barton Street. A 1940s vintage car is travelling towards Barton Street and a group of pedestrians, possibly a family are following. The bell tower of Bluecoat House on Saw Close is visible over the mansard roofs. B&W
