Description
'British Restaurants' were set up during the Second World War to provide inexpensive meals to people who had been bombed out of their homes or were otherwise in need of help. They were run by local authorities or voluntary organisations. The Civic Restaurants Act of 1947 enabled local authorities to continue running British restaurants, as long as they made a profit.
