Description
Comprising of minutes, financial and administrative records (including Orders for Interment) and coloured plans of Locksbrook Cemetery. St. Saviour's Burial Board was established in 1859 by the parish vestry under the Burial Act of 1853 (15 & 16 Vict. c.84) and (16 &17 Vict. c. 134). In the minutes, they protest against any attempts by Walcot St Swithin's to undertake burial board duties on behalf of St. Saviour's. Land was purchased in 1859 in Locksbrook, and the cemetery opened in 1864. The powers of the Board were transferred to the Town Clerk's department in November 1911 under the City Boundaries Extension Act of that year.
