Description

Records of Bathwick Burial Board including administration, finance and plans. The Burial Board was established in 1859 under the Cemeteries Act of 1853 (16 & 17 Vict c.134). It seems to have taken over responsibility for both Bathwick old cemetery on Henrietta Road, and the cemetery at Smallcombe Vale which had opened in 1856. In 1860 it took out a mortgage from the Public Works Loan Commissioners in order to extend the cemetery at Smallcombe Vale. In 1911, the Burial Board was taken over by the City Council.
