Physical Description:
The charter is illuminated with a large foliate initial and spraywork borders painted in blue and rose pigments with areas of burnished gold. The initial ‘R’ in ‘Ricardus’ at the start of the text, is infilled with curvilinear vinework. On the outer edge of the stem of the initial is a face in profile with a spray of trifoliate leaves extruding from the mouth.

Vines flow from the top and bottom of the stem of the initial into cusped corners and branches, from which the vines extend into a three-sided border. At the upper cusped corner of the initial, the vine flows into the tail of a dragon and then out of its mouth into the upper border.

The upper border extends across the full width the text block with a central interlace and terminates in corner piece from which the right-hand border descends. The left-hand border descends as a vine-scroll from the lower left corner of the initial. All sides of the border have trifoliate leaves extending from stems from the central vine.

Certain ascenders and initial letters in the top line are looped and elongated and are filled with a foliate design in red ink.

Seal:
The Great Seal is pendent by cords. It is slightly worn and has suffered damaged around the edge, particularly in the right corner (obverse) where the legend has broken away.
