Description: Inspeximus and confirmation of the inspeximus and confirmation of 5 Edward III (ref: BC/1/1/1/8), with further privileges granted.

The citizens of the City of Bath and their heirs and successors are forever exempt from stallage, murage, pavage, and piccage throughout the realm. They are granted the right to appoint their own taxers, collectors, and clerks and the right to levy and collect their own tenths, fifteenths, and other taxes. An accurate account of the money collected from these taxes must be given to the Exchequer. No one is to interfere with the collection of taxes unless the city is negligent in this duty. These grants should not result in any loss of money owed to the Crown.

Issued by writ of the Privy Seal, for a fee of £20 paid to the Exchequer.

A blank space has been left for the initial ‘E’ in ‘[E]dwardus’ at the start of the text and certain ascenders and initial letters in the top line are elongated and looped with bold pen strokes.

Seal:
The Great Seal is pendent by cords. There is a good impression, although the lower edge bearing the legend has broken away. This is the third seal ‘of presence’ of Edward III.
