Description
Official group photograph annotated ‘Permanent Staff and Sergeants, 4th Somerset Light Infantry, 1913 at Woodbury Camp’. Colour Sergent Frederick John Reginald Urch is back row, 4th from left.

The Bath Territorials were in camp at Woodbury Common near Exmouth in Devon, from 26 July to 9 August 1913, as part of the Wessex Infantry Brigade which was undergoing its annual 14 days training. Captain L. K. Bunting commanded the two Bath Companies. There were parades, drill, marches, practise attacks and lectures. A Sunday Service was followed by free time to visit local attractions and games of football were enjoyed. The reality of war with Germany was only a year away.
