Description
Photograph of a temple car or chariot, an "Idol car" or "Ratha", decorated with intricate wood carving, with a sheltering canopy and large stone wheels, used to carry the statues of the gods during religious festivals: a "temple on wheels". It dates from the Tipu sultan era in the 18th century. It is housed in a pavilion outside the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Seringapatem, a town with significant history related to Tipu Sultan, the former ruler of Mysore. A small group of people, including two Europeans are viewing it.
