Custodial History
The Empire Hotel, Grand Parade, Bath, was completed in 1901; owned by Messrs Spiers and Pond Ltd., it was the largest and most prestigious hotel in Bath. In September 1939 it was requisitioned for use by the Admiralty, and although de-requisitioned in 1949 continued in the occupation of the Ministry of Defence until the late 1980s. It was converted into flats, with bars and restaurants on the ground floor, in the mid 1990s.
