Description
Partis College was founded in 1824 by Ann Partis as a charity 'for thirty reduced gentlewomen in the decline of life'. The inmates all had to have a certain income (originally between £20-30 per annum) and be over the age of 50. The records consist of applications and related papers, of successful and unsuccessful candidates; the papers of the trustees of the College and accounts and related materials. Some papers of other charities to which the College had a connection are included, particularly St Anne's Society and the London Orphan School. See also Acc 0354.
Additional material was later received and combined with the first accession. Material was fitted into existing series where possible with other material in new series (0423/11-15). The additional material includes complete trustees' minutes, financial records, application papers and candidates' books, records relating to residents, press cuttings, plans and architectural material, personal papers of Mrs Partis and library committee minutes.
