Description
Album of mainly black and white photos with physical samples included as appropriate. Showing sample work undertaken by Chivers, including:illuminated addresses, leather bindings (including samples), typefaces & calligraphic samples, watercolour paintings for including in bindings (vellucent), paper inserts for ledgers etc., scrapbook mountings, paper conservation treatments, and linen mountings for maps.

Includes a letter from Kenneth Mackenzie (1744-1781), Lord Fortrose (later 1st Earl of Seaforth) to (Sir) William Hamilton (1730-1803), Envoy to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Fortrose has just left Naples and has arrived in Rome and is thanking Hamilton for his hospitality during his two year visit. Dates 12 February 1771. Used as an example of inserting a letter into a scrapbook across two pages.
